Apple season is here at last, and it’s time to come take your pick from some of the tastiest organic apples around—from our long-time partners Cinagro Orchards in Parkdale, OR.
We’ve been partnering with Sal D’Auria at Cinagro Orchards for over 14 years, and for good reason! Nestled on a steep south-facing slope beneath Mt. Hood, Sal and his team cultivate organic apples (and pears!) at Oregon’s highest elevation—2,500 feet! This unique microclimate allows the fruit to bask in the sun longer, giving their tree-ripened apples the unmatched flavor you know and love.
Cinagro, which is "organic" spelled backward, lives up to its name with these incredible apple varieties being truly organic:
Honeycrisp
In September and early October, Honeycrisp apples take center stage. With their creamy, juicy flesh, they’re perfect as a snack, in pies, as applesauce, and more!
Swiss Gourmet
These sweet-tart favorites arrive in early October and are available for just a few weeks! They’re juicy, extra crunchy, and great for eating fresh, slicing and adding to salads, or featuring on a cheese board.
Rubinette
This modern variety strikes the balance of what many consider the perfect apple: crisp, juicy, and supremely aromatic, with just the right sweet-tart flavor. Enjoy this one fresh or baked into seasonal tarts and pies.
And because Cinagro’s pears deserve just as much acclaim as their apples, don’t miss their sweet, buttery Comice pears!
We asked our friend Sal D’Auria at Cinagro Orchards to share a bit about his family farm and what it means to work with New Seasons:
We've been farming for over 25 years. It's been a very interesting journey with many challenges over the years as we've navigated various things in the orchard, but one of the things that we've done is maintain our initial mission: to take care of the land and grow the best fruit.
New Seasons understands that we take extra care. Cinagro is not a factory farm it's a farm grown by people who really care about fruit and organic farming.
New Seasons customers understand that when you go to New Seasons, you'll get a special fruit that is better than something from a large industrial farm. We appreciate that.
It's more difficult, I'm sure, to work with a lot of small farms. But for us, it really makes a difference.
