Seafood Sustainability: Fed by Blue

Water covers more than 70% of our planet's surface—and plays a significant role in the balance of our food and climate systems. Find out what we're doing to help protect them in partnership with Fed by Blue.

At New Seasons, we believe the choices we make today shape the future of our food. That's why we partner with Fed by Bluea science-based initiative working to transform and reimagine blue food systems.

Fed by Blue champions sustainable seafood by spotlighting positive industry stories, advocating for responsible stewardship of our oceans and waterways, and promoting practices that keep seafood a viable resource for future generations.

So, what is Blue Food?

Sustainably harvested and cultivated seafood from our planet's bodies of water—streams, rivers, lakes, wetlands, seas, and oceans. So, the wild-caught Alaskan halibut or responsibly farmed shrimp you find at New Seasons? Yep, that's blue food!

Why Blue Food Matters

Seafood sustainability often gets buried under alarmist headlines, but the reality is evolving. From independent fishers to large-scale sustainability initiatives, the industry is making real strides in environmental and social responsibility. Pretty cool, right?

By sharing these stories, Fed by Blue is helping shift the narrative from depletion to regeneration—aligning with our commitment to a better food future.

One of Fed by Blue’s key initiatives is the acclaimed Hope in the Water docuseries, which highlights innovative and sustainable seafood practices. And coming this May, they’ll be releasing a podcast (stay tuned!) that will take the conversation even further—giving seafood consumers deeper insight into the sustainability efforts shaping the industry.

When Daisy Berg, New Seasons Seafood Category Manager, watched Hope in the Water, one story stood out: shrimp farmers struggling with sustainability found mentorship from Vietnamese farmers, who helped them implement responsible techniques. This kind of knowledge-sharing is exactly what drives positive change in the industry.

At New Seasons, we seek partners who share our values—prioritizing sustainability and ethical practices. Organizations like Fed by Blue provide invaluable insights that inform our sourcing decisions, like working with our partners at SeaFresh for responsibly farmed shrimp. Their work isn’t just shaping the future—it’s making an impact today.
