Supporting efforts to solve hunger in the community is a part of our DNA here at New Seasons. Learn more about the amazing partners we’re working with to address hunger and its contributing factors.
At New Seasons Market, we believe that eating good is doing good. That’s why giving back to the communities we serve is central to our mission. We’re committed to ensuring equitable access to healthy, affordable, and culturally relevant food by partnering with those addressing hunger and its root causes.
We also dedicate 10% of our after-tax profits to this cause, with a focus on racial equity in the food system.
While we can't solve hunger alone, we can and do support efforts towards a more sustainable and resilient community.
During the pandemic, hunger rates in Oregon doubled and remain higher than the national average. One in five Oregonians faces food insecurity, with even higher rates in BIPOC communities.
Our philanthropic efforts support 21 local organizations that meet the immediate hunger needs of our community by creating long-term solutions, helping stabilize families, and promoting self-sufficiency.
These organizations are our steadfast partners in the fight against hunger:
So why is our sustained support so important to local nonprofits? Here’s a snapshot at how some of our contributions are benefitting some of our hunger partners:
Clackamas Service Center
As a major homeless services provider and the largest food resource in Clackamas County, Clackamas Service Center reaches 10,000 people monthly—from houseless neighbors to seniors on fixed incomes, kids and families striving to make ends meet, and everyone in between. Fresh, healthy products are rare in the food banking world, and the pre-packaged salads, deli foods, desserts, and other items donated by New Seasons serve community members who are often accustomed to boxed pasta and canned soups. The monetary support we’ve provided over the past several years also helps cover essential costs like utilities, equipment, and staff salaries.
Farmer Market Fund
New Seasons has partnered with the Farmer Market Fund for over 16 years, and in that time, they have expanded their Double Up Food Bucks program from a few markets to over 100 farmers' markets and farm stands across Oregon. The program now operates at 79% of Oregon's farmers' markets. In 2023, Double Up Food Bucks served over 90,000 underserved Oregonians and supported over 900 farmers. New Seasons has helped the program increase access to healthy, local produce for underserved communities. We value this long-standing relationship and look forward to continued collaboration.
Growing Gardens
The mission of New Seasons aligns closely with Growing Gardens: to address climate change, food insecurity, and community inclusion. Over the years, we've found creative ways to help enhance their programs through volunteer efforts, recycled tools, and financial contributions. Hundreds of New Seasons volunteers have contributed to the program, and this ongoing partnership continues to help nourish communities.
