Of course, we’d love to see you in our floral department every week, but we also love our flowers, reducing waste, and saving you money.

This spring, we’re celebrating two seasonal favorites—tulips and peonies! Here’s how to keep them thriving.

An arrangement of colorful tulip blooms.

Tulips (early spring)

  • Start with a clean vase to avoid introducing bacteria into the water.

  • Recut the stems at a 45-degree angle to maximize water absorption, and ensure no leaves are submerged.

  • Use cool water and change it every other day. Fun fact: tulips keep growing after being cut, so feel free to retrim the stems each time you refresh the water.

  • Give your tulips some space in the vase—overcrowding can damage the stems and shorten the life of your blooms.

  • To prevent drooping, ensure the water level is halfway up the stems, keep the vase out of direct sunlight, and position it away from your fruit bowl (fruit releases ethylene gas, which can cause flowers to age or wilt).

  • Remove any wilting blooms to keep the arrangement looking fresh.

An arrangement of colorful peonies blooms.

Peonies (late spring)

  • Start with a clean vase to avoid introducing bacteria into the water.

  • Recut the stems at a 45-degree angle to maximize water absorption, and ensure no leaves are submerged.

  • Fill the vase with cool water, add flower food, and stir until dissolved.

  • Refresh the water every few days, washing the vase each time to prevent bacteria buildup.

  • Place your peonies in a cool spot, away from direct sunlight, drafts, and heating vents.

  • Fun fact: Coral Charm peonies have a long bloom life, transitioning from a tight bulb to a layered coral-colored bloom that gradually fades to a soft cream. Peonies take patience, but the payoff is worth it!
