Scoop a little or stock up for the season—discover all the benefits of shopping the bulk section at New Seasons.
How to Shop Bulk
1. Bring your own reusable containers! Put those mason jars and reuseable storage containers in your cabinet to work.
2. Weigh your containers! Bulk items are sold by weight, so you'll need to weigh your empty containers in the bulk section or have your cashier weigh them before you stock up. That way, you pay only for the food inside, not the container.
3. Stock up! Fill your containers with your bulk favorites, then write the corresponding PLU bin number on each container.
4. Check out. Weight? Yep! PLU numbers? Yep! You’re all set for an easy checkout
If you’ve shopped at New Seasons, it’s hard to miss our bulk section. We’re proud to offer one of the largest selections around—from everyday pantry staples to sweet and savory snacks and everything in between. And many of those goods come from our friends at Hummingbird Wholesale, a trusted local partner that works closely with farmers, businesses, and nonprofits to support sustainable agriculture, strengthen our regional food system, and grow the organic community.
Knowing where your food comes from is always important—but there’s even more to love about shopping bulk.
Reduce Waste
Buying food in bulk eliminates the need for unnecessary packaging or single-use plastic because you can shop with your own reusable containers!
You Only Get What You Need
One significant advantage of buying in bulk is the ability to purchase exactly the amount you need for a meal or recipe rather than buying a larger, pre-packaged quantity that may go unused.
Food Stays Fresher
Because buying in bulk allows you to purchase just the amounts you need, the food you eat is likely fresher than, say, that half bag of polenta you bought months ago for a particular meal and didn't use up.
Less plastic waste, less food waste, and fresher, more delicious food are all great benefits of shopping bulk—it's also another way to make your shopping trip a little more sustainable.
